\u201cOne of those moments that everything is so perfect and so wonderful that you almost feel sad because nothing can ever be this good again.\u201d – Rory Gilmore<\/span><\/p>\n

Rory\u2019s words encapsulate the very real emotions all of us die-hard Gilmore Girls<\/i> fans felt watching the series finale back in 2007\u2014and still feel over and over again when we Netflix binge on old episodes. Soon, we can once again revel in the glorious television perfection that is Gilmore Girls<\/i>. The revival is coming, and we will be ready!<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re anything like me, this show is basically my football home team. I will gladly rock an awkward early 2000s outfit of Converse and crazy tights paired with a jean skirt and topped off with a lace up collar peasant top in lieu of a jersey. I will place my bets\u2014along with all of my Team Logan, Team Jess, Team Dean, or Team New-Guy-Altogether-Please friends\u2014on who Rory\u2019s true love will ultimately be. And you better believe I will be throwing a revival release celebration that will rival any Superbowl party you\u2019ve ever seen.<\/p>\n

As I wait around for the Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life<\/i>\u2019s November release date, my excitement mounts. I\u2019ve already started sending invites for a group viewing party, Lorelai-inspired attire optional, but strongly encouraged. To get my friends just as fired up about reentering the world of Gilmore as I am, a small basket<\/a> filled with a pack of Pop-Tarts<\/a> and an apple accompany each invitation\u2014as well as a large name tag of one Gilmore Girls<\/i>\u2019 character per invitee.<\/p>\n

In a nod to the episode \u201cA-Tisket, A-Tasket,\u201d and the Stars Hollow Charity Picnic Basket Lunch Auction, I\u2019ll be hosting a white elephant-style Gilmore Girls<\/i> gift exchange game<\/a> at my release party. Each invite sent out will have instructions explaining the game\u2019s rules to go along with their assigned character tag. Guests will be asked to hang their name tag on the basket that came with the invitation, and fill it with a few wrapped gifts inspired by that character.<\/p>\n

For example, if you received a tag for Rory Gilmore, you might include a copy of The Bell Jar<\/a> and a colorful scarf<\/a>, or a guest that got Luke Danes\u2019 tag could find a ball cap<\/a> and a \u201cno cell phones\u201d sign<\/a>. For Lorelai\u2019s basket, a Bangles Greatest Hits CD<\/a> and a novelty coffee mug would be great the perfect gifts.<\/p>\n

Here are the rules for our Gilmore Girls<\/i> gift exchange:<\/p>\n

1. On small pieces of paper, or using the help of an online gift exchange<\/a>, write out a number for each guest participating.<\/p>\n

2. Fold the papers in half and place into a hat\u2014a tacky, floppy fisher\u2019s hat if you have one.<\/p>\n

3. Have all guests draw a number to determine when they will take their turn.<\/p>\n

4. The guest who drew #1 gets to go first and pick whatever character\u2019s basket they want, but they cannot open it yet.<\/p>\n

5. Guests continue to take turns in the order of numbers drawn. The next player may choose a new character\u2019s basket, or steal the one that has already been picked. But, a basket may only be stolen 3 times. After that, the basket is safe from being stolen.<\/p>\n

6. Once every guest has had a turn, player #1 may choose to keep the gift they ended with, or they can steal one last time\u2014even a basket safe from everyone else! This is where drawing #1 is a big win, and can cause one last upset if a guest thought they were set to take home a coveted basket\u2026 Rory\u2019s perhaps?<\/p>\n

7. After everyone has a basket, open the wrapped gifts to see all the Gilmore Girls<\/i>\u2019 character-inspired surprises! \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n

No party is complete without refreshments, so we pay homage to the girls\u2019 eating habits by enjoying Luke\u2019s Diner staples: maybe some bite-sized burgers, fries, mini pizzas, and eggrolls. Of course, I would never forget the Pop-Tarts, enough candy to make Willy Wonka proud, and so much coffee, coffee, coffee. Maybe even a bowl of Founder\u2019s Day punch to help my guests relive past episodes before watching the new scenes unfold.<\/p>\n

The decorations around us will be a tribute to the show, and Stars Hollow\u2019s many town celebrations, like blankets inspired by their Knit-A-Thon, mini hay bales from the Spring Fling Festival maze, LOTS OF BOOKS, Firelight Festival stars\u2014and I won\u2019t forget to delight my guests with a box of cornstarch (a la Rory\u2019s first kiss).<\/p>\n

Just like a football fantasy league (because let\u2019s face it, this is THAT serious to us), bets on whether Lorelai and Luke will finally tie the knot, and other much speculated on Gilmore events, will be placed. Accurate predictions will win prizes any Gilmore fan would adore…like a Luke\u2019s Diner mug<\/a>, an \u201cIN OMNIA PARATUS\u201d poster, or an \u201cI drink like a Gilmore\u201d tee<\/a>\u2014not to mention gloating rights. Door prizes for outfits voted most inspired by the girl\u2019s unique fashion sense will also be awarded.<\/p>\n

As the night concludes, we\u2019ll discuss all the great new quotes we\u2019re sure to repeat for another 8 years, and rave over the gifts we opened from the basket gift exchange. After all, it\u2019s not every day that you get a chance to relive something as endearing as our girls. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life<\/i> may be just another revival of an old show to some. But for the friends who will gather around my living room, it\u2019s a chance to see the world through the eyes of Lorelai, Rory, and the amazingly colorful citizens of Stars Hollow one last time. And that\u2026 that is as magical as the first winter\u2019s snowfall to a Gilmore girl.<\/p>\n
