{"id":4558,"date":"2013-03-16T15:26:10","date_gmt":"2013-03-16T19:26:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.elfster.com\/blog\/?p=4558"},"modified":"2023-02-10T14:09:18","modified_gmt":"2023-02-10T19:09:18","slug":"as-children-grow-friendships-blossom-and-traditions-develop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.elfster.com\/blog\/2013\/03\/16\/as-children-grow-friendships-blossom-and-traditions-develop\/","title":{"rendered":"As children grow, friendships blossom and traditions develop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/farm4.staticflickr.com\/3014\/5719882197_f9d31578f9_m.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>There are lots of places that expectant women can find information about their pregnancies.\u00a0 There are books, websites, and visits to the doctor.\u00a0 For many people, there can be nothing more valuable than sharing your experience with another person who is going through the same thing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nElfster is home to a group of women who all connected as first time mothers on <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.babycenter.com\/\"><strong>babycenter.com.<\/strong><\/a><strong>\u00a0 After getting to know each other on the site, they branched off and created a private Facebook group where they could keep in touch.\u00a0 The women all shared due dates in May of 2012.\u00a0 They call themselves the May Mamas.\u00a0 According to Colleen Guertin, the group organizer, the first baby of the group was born in late April of 2012.\u00a0 Over the next six weeks, 20 more babies were born, and now they are quickly approaching their first birthdays.<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>The women first used Elfster to host a joint baby shower for each other before the babies were born. They shared information from baby registries, along with pictures of nurseries, to help their swap partner select a gift.\u00a0 Since then, they have also used the site to exchange gifts for Christmas, Valentine\u2019s Day, and are currently hosting a first birthday exchange.\u00a0 For the Christmas exchange, they all agreed to open their gifts on Christmas Eve, and plan to continue to do this every year.\u00a0 The members refer to the babies as \u201ccyber cousins\u201d, and have fun shopping for each other, and frequently go over their exchange spending limit when selecting their gifts!<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>This group has been able to share a unique closeness because of their frequent exchanges of both word and gift.\u00a0 Colleen says, \u201cWe shared all our excitement and anxieties as we progressed through our pregnancies. Through Facebook we were able to share pictures of our nurseries and growing bellies.\u00a0 We have continued to be a support for each other as our babies have grown and are quickly approaching their first birthdays.
