You may not be thinking of the holiday season yet; after all, it\u2019s still three months until Christmas.\u00a0 But the holidays can be a frantic, if amazing, time of the year when you don\u2019t want to lose out on any memories.\u00a0 A bit of head-start planning can save you heartache and headache in December.\u00a0 So here\u2019s a list of Elfster tips for things you can start thinking about and plan ahead of time:<\/p>\n

1. Create and gather wish lists<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

While you may not start shopping until later, getting people thinking about what they might like to receive can start at any time.\u00a0 This also helps give those who buy everything for themselves a reminder to leave a few things for others too.\u00a0 At this time of year, remember our mantra, \u201cDon\u2019t buy it, wish it\u201d. Check out this blog post that describes how to easily use our browser button, photo wishes, mobile apps, and barcode scanner.<\/p>\n

If they haven\u2019t already, remind your\u00a0 friends, family, and co-workers to sign up for an Elfster account and create their own wishlist.\u00a0 That way, shopping for everyone on your list will be a snap.<\/p>\n

2. Time, or Money?<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The holidays can be a struggle for those who have less, and now is the time to think about whether you\u2019re able to give some support to your community.\u00a0 Think about whether that commitment can be time, or money.\u00a0 If it\u2019s time, consider volunteering at a local food bank or shelter, or helping serve a holiday meal at a low income kitchen.
\nIf you\u2019re going to be busy with friends, family, or other preplanned commitments, you can donate to a charity of your choice.\u00a0 Elfster has pulled together a list of some worthy charities at http:\/\/www.elfster.com\/wish\/guide\/12\/give-back\/<\/a>, which can be found on the left sidebar under \u201cShop\u201d at any time.<\/p>\n

3. Choose just the right one<\/strong><\/p>\n

Just like choosing a tree, when buying gifts you want the right one.\u00a0\u00a0 When shopping\u00a0 for a child, teen, or young adult it\u2019s important to consider our top two tips:<\/p>\n

a) Age & Maturity
\n-What\u2019s good for one ten year old may be wildly inappropriate for another.\u00a0 Checking sites like http:\/\/www.parenting.com<\/a> for toys, or specific sites like the ESRB (www.esrb.com<\/a>)for video games can give you some much needed insight.<\/p>\n

b) Interests & Learning
\n-Any toy or activity that expands someone\u2019s mind and tastes seems like a good idea.\u00a0 Take a moment to consider how the child typically acts.\u00a0 If they\u2019re fiercely independent and seek to be alone frequently, buying them a toy which requires supervision — like a science kit —\u00a0 won\u2019t be as welcome as a crafting kit for painting, stitching, or bracelet making which can be done solo.<\/p>\n
