Here&#8217;s an easy but brilliant craft that will help you keep track of all your trips &#8211; past, present, and future! Your trips in America, at least. Of course, you can totally make your own templates for other countries! We think color-coding the flags would also be a great idea.<\/p>\n<h3>Tools<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>bandsaw (optional)<\/li>\n<li>Xacto knife and blades<\/li>\n<li>scissors<\/li>\n<li>tape<\/li>\n<li>wood glue<\/li>\n<li>drill and drill bit<\/li>\n<li>computer printer and paper<\/li>\n<li>paint brush<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>Materials<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>18\u2033 x 24\u2033 piece of thin plywood<\/li>\n<li>22\u2033 piece of 1\u2033 x 2\u2033 wood strip<\/li>\n<li>2 eyehooks and picture hanging wire<\/li>\n<li>20\u2033 x 16\u2033 piece of 1\/4\u2033 cork<\/li>\n<li>ball headed pins<\/li>\n<li>water slide paper (optional) &#8211;\u00a0http:\/\/www.decalpaper.com\/category-s\/8.htm<\/li>\n<li>paint<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Templates<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.designspongeonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/map_temp_page1.jpg\">Template 1<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.designspongeonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/map_temp_page2.jpg\">Template 2<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.designspongeonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/map_temp_page3.jpg\">Template 3<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.designspongeonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/map_temp_page4.jpg\">Template 4<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.designspongeonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/map_temp_page5.jpg\">Template 5<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.designspongeonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/map_temp_page6.jpg\">Template 6<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Instructions<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Cut out a 24\u2033x18\u2033 rectangle of thin plywood.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t have a saw you can ask the nice folks over a Lowes to help you out.\u00a0 I rounded out my corners on the bandsaw for an extra aesthetic detail.<\/li>\n<li>Paint your board desired color.\u00a0 I went with a traditional blue.<\/li>\n<li>Print out map templates.<\/li>\n<li>Trim up map pages, tape together, and cut out paper America and circles.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2088\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.elfster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/2_cut_out_map1.jpg\" alt=\"2_cut_out_map\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" \/><\/li>\n<li>Tape paper America and circles to cork. Using an exacto blade in a sawing motion cut out cork America and circles<\/li>\n<li>Glue down cork pieces using wood glue.<\/li>\n<li>Print and cut out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designspongeonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/compass_template.jpg\">compass<\/a> and mod podge onto the bottom left hand side of your board.\u00a0 I used a water slide image transfer paper, which creates a translucent image.\u00a0(Find transfer paper here)<\/li>\n<li>To hang your map, cut one 18\u2033 piece and two, 2\u2033 pieces of 1\u2033 x 2\u201d wood.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t have a saw, you can ask the nice folks over at Lowes to help you where they cut moulding.<\/li>\n<li>Drill holes in the 18\u2033 piece about 1 1\/4\u2033 from the end and screw in eyehooks.<\/li>\n<li>Glue all three pieces to the back of the map, and lace picture hanging wire through two eyehooks.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2089\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.elfster.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/9_make_flags.jpg\" alt=\"9_make_flags\" width=\"475\" height=\"356\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.elfster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/9_make_flags.jpg 475w, https:\/\/www.elfster.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/07\/9_make_flags-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 475px) 100vw, 475px\" \/><\/li>\n<li>For the flags, print and cut out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.designspongeonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/marker_flags.jpg\">flag patterns<\/a> and fold in half.\u00a0 Insert pins into crease and glue shut.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">Photo and instructions courtesy of Design*Sponge Have you been hit by the travel bug?
