Normally, we throw a big Christmas party every year. But the holidays can be hectic, and sometimes we just want something a little more intimate. So last year, we decided to just have a handful of close friends over. And guess what? It was every bit as fun as our big party.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A small Christmas party can be a joyful occasion, a chance to sit and talk to people while sipping from your mugs. It\u2019s a chance to catch up on each other\u2019s lives in a more intimate setting. It\u2019s a way to really connect. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And don\u2019t think for one second that playing games is no longer on the table with a smaller group. These festive Christmas party games for small groups make a huge impact. Whether you\u2019re with family, friends, coworkers, or anyone else, games generate happiness to fill whatever space you\u2019re in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 Festive Christmas Party Games for Small Groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Obviously, all groups vary. A group of close friends might love playing a game coworkers might not feel comfortable with. So, when choosing a game, pick one that will appeal to everyone, such as: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Holiday Storytelling<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This game is fun for all ages and can lead you down some seriously silly paths. Someone starts a story with a sentence or two, then the next person adds to it. A few rules to make this a little more holiday-related:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. No starting with, \u201cIt was a dark and stormy night.\u201d<\/strong> At the very least, it was snowy, right?<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  2. Pick a theme or title for the story. <\/strong>For example, \u201cWhen Santa Got Lost,\u201d \u201cTrapped in the Mall on Christmas Eve\u201d or \u201cAccount Payable vs. the Lost Yetis of the North Pole\u201d (you know, for an office party).<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. No judging!<\/strong> Let people be imaginative. The point isn\u2019t to write the Great American Novel; it\u2019s to have fun and work together. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Some people choose an endpoint to work toward, but I prefer going around the room a few times, depending on size, and just seeing what happens. It\u2019s entirely up to you how you want to end it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    End of the Year \u201cGuess Who\u201d<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    At the end of every year\u2014and certainly at the end of every decade\u2014people like to do a \u201cbest of\u201d list. Doing this at your party is a fun way to see how much you know about everyone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Have people write down their favorite movie, song, and TV show of the year (or some variation, depending on the group). Put the lists in a hat, shuffle them up, and lay them out on a table. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Everyone will also have a piece of paper where they can write down whose list they think is whose, corresponding to the order they\u2019re laid out in. At the end, everyone reveals who they are. This is fun because you learn more about the people around you, and you also see who has been paying the most attention. To me, this is a particularly fun game to play at a work party<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    (Note: you can also send out the questions in advance so people can think them over.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Human Christmas Tree<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    This is just goofy fun and a perfect game for the entire family<\/a>. Split into \u201cteams.\u201d Designate one person as the \u201ctree.\u201d Decorate the Christmas out of them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    You know, tassels, ornaments, lights, angels, candy canes, balloons\u2014the works. This isn\u2019t a game that\u2019s judged, except maybe by people on Instagram. In this game, everyone’s a winner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Christmas Movie Charade<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    We\u2019ve all seen a million Christmas movies, from It\u2019s a Wonderful Life<\/em> to Love, Actually<\/em> to Die Hard<\/em>. But can you act them out? This variant on charades has a few different ways you can play. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
